A First Course in Linear Algebra

Come for the price, stay for the quality

A project like this doesn't happen without some expenses. And if you like this model of textbook publishing, then helping with expenses and rewarding the author with royalties will help show others that this model is a viable alternative. This page will eventually include rough annual financial statements so that others may see (through transparent reporting) what is required and what is possible.

Royalties

With a traditional textbook, an author might expect to receive an amount around $5 for each copy sold. So this is a suggested amount, but you are of course free to determine exactly what you think is appropriate. If you purchase a physical copy, then a $5 royalty is included in the price.

Maintenance

Much of the cost of creating this textbook has been borne by my employer, the University of Puget Sound, such as website hosting and printing drafts copies for my students to critique. However, there are out-of-pocket expenses, such as sending out review copies or purchasing ISBN numbers. Much of the software I use is open-source (or simply free) so it would be appropriate for me to donate back to these projects.

Payments

On December 11, 20089 Amazon.com shut down its "Honor System" payment system for donations. So right now we do not have a convenient way to make a donation. Any sugestions for a similar system (but not Paypal) would be appreciated. If you are not deterred, then a check (in US funds drawn on a US bank, please), is another way to go. US or Canadian cash would be a final resort. My postal address is:
